Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers announced today that Al Gore will be joining the firm and adding Venture Capitalist to his already long list of titles and accomplishments. The role seems like a surprisingly natural fit, as he will be working closely with their Greentech initiative while providing guidance, introductions, and expertise to portfolio companies. The venture firm has also announced an alliance with Gore’s $1 billion Generation Investment Management fund as reported by Fortune. John Doerr, partner at KPCB and the visionary investor behind Netscape, Google, and Amazon, will join the board of Generation Investment Management as it continues to invest in sustainable publicly traded companies. In addition to swapping personnel, the alliance and KPCB have already begun sharing industry knowledge as well as information on particular companies. The vision of this collaboration, however, is a wide sweeping green revolution that will require significant industry knowledge, actionable political connections, immense amounts of capital, and a determined entrepreneurial spirit– a combination that this alliance now touts.
